This is a community event where community members and their families can engage with the Climate Justice Team for creative conversations about how our daily lives are interconnected with the world we are creating. There will be a special focus on elections at all levels, with family-friendly activities stationed along the Road to a Cleaner Future, highlighting the importance of resident participation in the democratic process. School Board Candidate Forum

There will be seven candidates on the ballot for Grand Rapids Public School board members, and four open positions. Attend this forum for the chance to hear from all of the candidates about how they plan to lead if elected. A formal panel will take place from 6-7:30pm with time for audience questions, followed by 30 minutes of open networking time for you to speak directly to the candidates one-on-one. Dinner will be available on a first come-first served basis, so make sure you arrive on time! Spanish language interpretation will be available onsite. If you aren't able to attend in person, the forum will be livestreamed on the UCC Facebook page.

This past March and April, our education justice team held town hall meetings asking students, families, building staff, and partners to share their experiences with Grand Rapids Public School structure and culture, and their ideas for improvement. In May and June, an analysis committee of students, parents, and partners to review the data and prioritize potential action steps. In August and September, we convened a research committee (again made up of students, parents, and partners) to explore and gather more information about a path forward. Join us on Thursday, October 3rd from 6-8pm for dinner and a report on what we learned, where we'll be going next, and most importantly how YOU can get involved!
