We were invited back to the First Community AME Church to host another completely free clinic and mutual aid fair October 19th from 11am - 3pm! The church will be doing some food distribution at 1pm as well.

Climate March
On October 12th, make your voice heard and join the movement for a clean, healthy, just, and livable community and climate at the 3rd Grand Rapids Climate March and rally. With a focus on informed voter engagement and energy democracy, this 12-3pm event will feature speakers, a march, and tabling by a variety of organizations.

This is a community event where community members and their families can engage with the Climate Justice Team for creative conversations about how our daily lives are interconnected with the world we are creating. There will be a special focus on elections at all levels, with family-friendly activities stationed along the Road to a Cleaner Future, highlighting the importance of resident participation in the democratic process. There will be seven candidates on the ballot for Grand Rapids Public School board members, and four open positions. Attend this forum for the chance to hear from all of the candidates about how they plan to lead if elected. A formal panel will take place from 6-7:30pm with time for audience questions, followed by 30 minutes of open networking time for you to speak directly to the candidates one-on-one. Dinner will be available on a first come-first served basis, so make sure you arrive on time! Spanish language interpretation will be available onsite. If you aren't able to attend in person, the forum will be livestreamed on the UCC Facebook page.
Education Justice Community Report Out
This past March and April, our education justice team held town hall meetings asking students, families, building staff, and partners to share their experiences with Grand Rapids Public School structure and culture, and their ideas for improvement. In May and June, an analysis committee of students, parents, and partners to review the data and prioritize potential action steps. In August and September, we convened a research committee (again made up of students, parents, and partners) to explore and gather more information about a path forward. Join us on Thursday, October 3rd from 6-8pm for dinner and a report on what we learned, where we'll be going next, and most importantly how YOU can get involved!

Join us for our second canning workshop, where we'll be making delicious salsa and canning fresh tomatoes! 🥫🍅 The workshop will take place on Monday, August 26th, from 6 to 9 PM, at Linc Up- 1167 Madison Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49507.

GRATU Monthly Tenants Meeting
Monthly tenant union meeting to build tenant power. Come with ideas and share information about landlords and Property Management Companies that are exploiting tenants in the Grand Rapids Area. Come and learn about our new efforts to build capacity, to recruit new members and to find out how we are getting the word out about GRATU.
